What does it take to grow a junk removal business in New Orleans?
As a part of our ongoing “Owner-Operator” series, We interviewed the owner of Corey’s Debris and Furniture Removal:
Q: Tell us a bit about your business.
A: “I’ve been in the business for 10 years. I started out doing this on my own, picking up debris and furniture from people’s yards. I gradually grew my business by word-of-mouth, and now I have a crew of workers who help me out. We do a lot of work in the French Quarter and downtown, but we’ll go anywhere in the city.”
Q: What are some of your most popular services?
A: “We do a lot of debris removal – from construction sites, for example, or after a hurricane. We also do furniture removal, both from people’s homes and businesses. We have a lot of experience with office furniture and can usually get it out quickly and without any damage.”
Q: What makes your company stand out from the competition?
A: “We’re reliable and we always do a good job. We’re also affordable, which is important in New Orleans.
Q: What are some obstacles to growing in your industry?
A: “It can be tough to find good workers. A lot of people here in New Orleans are looking for work, and it can be hard to find someone who is reliable and has the right skills.”
Q: What are your plans for the future?
A: “I’m planning on expanding my business. I’m going to start doing some work outside of New Orleans, in Baton Rouge, and maybe even Houston.”
Q: Are there any jobs you won’t do?
A: “We’ll pretty much do anything, except for hazardous materials. We’re licensed and insured, so people can trust us to do a good job.”
