In this week’s Spotlight on NOLA award winner interview, we talked to Owner and CEO, Doug S., about how he got into the business, his ups and downs as a small business owner, what makes Orleans Kitchens different from other kitchens in New Orleans. He has been running the company for over 15 years now and it’s clear that he really loves what he does. Q: What made you decide to get into the kitchen remodeling business?

A: I was always interested in home improvement and construction, so when I got the opportunity to purchase Orleans Kitchens, it was a perfect fit. I really enjoy helping people create their dream kitchens and seeing the look of excitement on their faces when they see the finished product.

Q: What have been some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced as a small business owner?

A: One of the biggest challenges is finding good employees. It’s tough to find people who are both qualified and reliable, but I think we’ve finally found a great team in place. Another challenge has been staying up with the latest trends in kitchen design. The industry changes so quickly that it’s important to always be on top of your game.

Q: What is the hottest trend in Kitchen Remodeling right now?

A: I would say the hottest trend is open kitchens. People are moving away from traditional closed-in kitchens and instead are opting for a more open layout that allows them to interact with their guests while cooking. This is a great trend for smaller homes where space is at a premium.
